FamilySearch. Hamilton Co., OH Lease Books, 1849. |
In January 1849, my 3rd-great-grandfather Samuel Oyler entered a lease contract with Henry Seaman, who would build out and operate a tavern, enlarging an existing bar room in Harrison, Hamilton County, Ohio. In return, Seaman was to pay Samuel $125 per year in quarterly payments through 1852.
Seaman is listed as a clerk in the 1850 US Census, working the same household as George G. Oyler, tavern keeper. George was Samuel's older brother. Samuel is listed as a butcher in the census entry.

The tavern might have looked similar to Eighteen Mile House, a historic tavern in Harrison, Hamilton County.
