The bar maid

While I do not have proof that my 3rd-great-grandmother Marianna Haiss met Samuel Oyler through working at a tavern, perhaps she helped in the Oyler tavern after they were married in December 1850. The image above is from the same period, and part of a series of tavern and public house images on Google Arts & Culture.

I do not have a record for Marianna in either the 1850 or 1860 US Censuses, but in 1870 she was keeping house for Samuel's father, George Oyler Sr., and three of her six children. She was listed as Mary A in the record below.
