A Historic Home

Tucson, Arizona. 27 Mar 2022.

My Mom and sister have been vacationing in Arizona, and sent me this photo of them outside Exo Roast Co. in the Barrio Viejo neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona. The coffee shop is in a historic adobe building, which was home to my great-grandparents Plutarco Campuzano, Manuela Portillo, their children, including my Granny and her eight siblings, and my 2nd-great-grandmother Teresa Diaz de Portillo. It is cool to see the building has been saved, and that they were able to visit a place where the family was living for many years in Tucson.

In 2012 previously shared the entry from the 1940 US Census, showing the family at 196 W. Simpson.

P-22 Sightings

Photo by Patrick Jones. P-22 Mural, Venice, CA. 7 Mar 2022.

Last week I was in LA, following our virtual meeting which was originally planned for San Juan, Puerto Rico. While wandering around Venice, I spotted this mural by artist Louis Masai of local mountain lion celebrity P-22. Coincidentally, P-22 was in the news last week for roaming outside his usual home in Griffith Park down to Silver Lake. Perhaps P-22 is a Dodgers fan.

The mural is in support of the Save LA Cougars campaign, which I have helped support with donations for the past few years. They have been working toward building a wildlife crossing over the 101 freeway. The project has been funded and groundbreaking should begin soon on the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing

Luquillo Beach

Photo by Patrick Jones. Luquillo, PR. 19 Feb 2022.

The photo above is from the four-day Presidents Day Weekend. The family and I took a quick trip to Puerto Rico for some sun & warmth at Luquillo Beach. This was a great stay. Luquillo is less than an hour drive outside of San Juan. The beach is wonderful, and the surf town is pretty relaxed, with good food (we loved the fish tacos at Boardriders).

Old San Juan looked much better since my last visit to Puerto Rico in March 2018. I intended to post photos from the trip earlier, but other things have gotten in the way of the blog.
