One Year Later

Photo by Patrick Jones. Niche wall at Arlington Cemetery. 25 Aug 2017.
Last Friday we honored our Dad with his internment ceremony at Arlington Cemetery. Tomorrow marks a year since his passing, a night I will never forget as we were battered by near hurricane-force winds from Tropical Storm Hermine. Last year we did not have a ceremony, but the internment performed last week by an Air Force Honor Guard, with a rifle salute and kind words from an Air Force Chaplain provided some closure.

His niche wall cover will be ready in the next 90 days or so. Arlington has a fairly easy process for obtaining a parking pass to the grounds, although parking is plentiful and we can always take Metro. The niche wall area is a bit of a hike from the cemetery entrance, but they do offer a shuttle to different areas. It is important to reflect on the lives of so many who have given their lives in service to the country. Arlington Cemetery is a humbling place. I am glad we can continue to pay our respects to our Dad there.
