Downtown LA Street Art Walk Part 1

Yesterday morning we went on a street art walk around Downtown Los Angeles. I had three murals mapped out to see, two by South African artist Faith 47 and one a collaboration by Christina Angelina and Fin DAC. Along the way we spotted a few bonus murals, which I will share in this set of photos.

The mural above is titled "The Preciousness of the Hunt," and it located on the corner of 12th and 1130 S. Flower Street, near the LA Live complex. I have captured some of her murals in the past, a lion in Shoreditch, London and several at Wynwood Walls in Miami. A bonus mural was the neighboring large wall by DourOne.

Two bonus murals by German artist Case Maclaim were located near the murals by Faith 47 and DourOne.

The third hand mural spotted on this walk was painted on the side of the Bristol Hotel by JR back in 2011. My last one in this set is a new mural by Faith 47, titled "Who will guard the guards themselves?" This is located near 453 S. Spring Street.

Point Dume

Photos from a picture perfect few hours of beach time at Point Dume, north of Malibu off the Pacific Coast Highway. This was one of our favorite spots when we lived in LA.

Edgar, 1941

This photo is of my great-grandfather, Edgar Lawrence Jones. The photo was probably taken around the time of my Gumpy's wedding in October 1941. I have recently written about Edgar as part of the 1915 Indiana high school state champion basketball team from Thorntown, Indiana, the 1915 Thorntown glee club, earlier with a post on the marriage license for Edgar and Alma Oyler and a post on Edgar's draft cards.

My grandparents were married on 11 October 1941. Keith D. Jones was 21 at the time, Blanche Allene O'Brien was almost 29. She owned her own beauty shop in Broad Ripple, Indianapolis.

The old hardware store

Thorntown, Indiana, 1908-1909.

In the collection of old photos inherited by my Dad, this one was labeled "Alma Oyler's Dad's hardware store, 1908-1909". I had to look back at my recap on the life of Charles John Oyler, Alma's father, to see that this matches up with a recollection by Joe Oyler written in 1970. The store above was located in Thorntown, Indiana.
