Two helpful researchers in Kentucky have provided me with copies of obituaries for my 3rd-great-grandfather, Guilford Dudley Read (see
previous blog post from 2012). The first is from the Glasgow Times, 17 March 1916.

The second obituary comes from the Glasgow Republican, dated 23 March 1916 (and from
Findagrave user Laura).

I love these older obituaries. I have ancestors who lived in Barren County in the 19th century (surnames Ashby & Gorin), and I have a few obituaries pasted inside an old family bible, but I would love to find others. Are the copies of Glasgow newspapers only available locally? Are they on microfilm?

Hi Elizabeth. You might try that question on the Barren County list from the Ancestry message boards. I received the newspaper copies above from other researchers in the area, the second was posted on the Findagrave entry for G.D. Read. I would also be interested to know if Glasgow and area newspapers are on microfilm in order to search related families.
