Summertime

Blogging has been admittedly slow. I am a bit surprised this is now my 3rd post of May, and February, March and April were not real prolific either. Writing here has just been slow. I have been doing some research, but the words haven't appeared on screen. Perhaps that will change as the month shifts to June and we get into summer. I'll be traveling for meetings a bit in June but I should be able to return to more regular family history postings in July.

Behind the scenes, there's still some research happening, just at a slower pace. I've now had 1,467 posts on this blog over the past 6+ years. That's a lot of text, photos and family history nuggets. I do want to continue posting on the blog, but I haven't felt the pull of needing to write. I want to get back to that. There are more family stories to uncover and share. 

Beyond the Streets

On Saturday I had the opportunity to see the awesome Beyond the Streets exhibition in Los Angeles. Many of the artists at this show I have had the opportunity to see in other places, such as Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Aiko, Faile and Faith 47. Others were legends or influential artists whose work I was familiar but hadn't seen in person. It is a cool show and if you have the chance to see it in LA, go do it. If not, this will be traveling, likely next to New York. I took many photos, some of which I may share here. I have already put some of my photos in other places, such as Instagram.

On this trip I was able to explore Echo Park and hike in Griffith Park and Runyon Canyon. I've been to LA many times over the years, it is one of my favorite cities in the world. But Echo Park was a new neighborhood for me. It was nice to see a different part of LA, and makes me feel even more connected to the city.

Back Again

I am back in the US after several flights from the Middle East. I didn't blog last week because I was running a technical training and participating in a two day conference in Turkey. Posts to the blog have been much slower this year. While I have been to Turkey many times, this was my first visit to Ankara, the capital of the country.

While I was overseas, Ancestry has been running a great promotion for its AncestryDNA kits at $59. I am hopeful that two months from now I'll see some more DNA matches in the results I administer. There have been some recent exchanges with interesting matches on the Mexican side of the tree, and it is timely to be able to dig into those links with Cinco de Mayo approaching.

A Blue Ribbon Gardener

In Tuesday's post, I wrote about Concepcion "Concha" Campuzano, sister of my great-grandfather Plutarco. She was a champion horticulturalist, and regularly won prizes for her African violets in Tucson. Excellent gardening skills seem to run in the Campuzano family, my Granny's brother Ernie operated an orchid greenhouse in California.
