This is from the Digital Florentine Codex, scanned by the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles, from the original created by Spanish franciscan friar Bernardino de SahagĂșn in the late 1500s Mexico. The document contains 2500 pages and over 2000 illustrations of life and natural history featuring the Aztec people. The codex enabled the translation of Nahuatl to English. The scenes above and below show the process of tamale making, today a cultural staple across Latin America.
