FamilySearch. 1851 Census. Bas-Rhin, France. |
Looking back at the family of Allison's 5th-great-grandfather, Jean Pierre Halter, I found him in the Bas-Rhin Archives, with another family in the 1851 Census for Birkenwald. Jean Pierre married Rosine Bauer in Birkenwald on 4 February 1839.
In the record above, the household included the following other residents:
- Marcel Bauer, son of Rosine (18)
- Antoine Halter, son of Jean Pierre and Rosine (12)
- Hubert Halter, son of Jean Pierre and Rosine (10)
- Françoise Halter, daughter of Jean Pierre and Rosine (5)
- Marie Rose Halter, daughter of Jean Pierre and Rosine (2)
- Caroline Halter, daughter of Jean Pierre and Rosine (13 months)
Jean Pierre and Rosine also appear together in the 1846 Census in Birkenwald.
This appears to be his third wife, as there is another marriage recorded in 1827 with a Marie Anne Freiss. There's a bit more to unpack with Jean Pierre Halter and his sizable record of children in the Bas-Rhin region of France. I'll cover that in a subsequent post.
