Ancestry has updated the DNA results for 2021, providing refreshed ethnicity estimates for those who have tested in the past. Compared to last year's update, my percentages have changed once again. It seems that my percentages for France have been combined into England & Northeastern Europe, which increased from 48% to 51%. My Scotland increased from 10 to 20%, but Ireland dropped from 14 to 8%. Germanic Europe increased from 6 to 10%. My Indigenous Americas - Mexico held steady at 4%, same for Nigeria at 1%. My Spain dropped from 6 to 3%.
When I click into the results above, it does show the range for my ethnicity estimate for Spain to be from 0-17%, which is the same range I'm given for my Irish estimate.
My sister's England & Northwestern Europe percentage increased to 45%. Her Scotland dropped from 26 to 20%, and her Ireland held steady at 18%. Her France went up to 6% and she added Sweden & Denmark in place of Norway. Her Greece & Albania went up to 2%.
My Mom's results are now more in line with what I would have guessed based on family research. She's now at 36% England & Northwestern Europe, down from 50%. Her Spain is now 25% and Indigenous Americas - Mexico at 10%. Her Ireland increased slightly from 7 to 9%. She added Sweden & Denmark at 6%. Basque is still at 2%, along with Indigenous Americas - Yucatan at 1%, Northern Italy at 1% and Cameroon, Congo & Western Bantu peoples at 1%.
Her sisters still show more variety with trace Indigenous Americas ethnicities. One had Indigenous Americas - Mexico at 10%, Indigenous Americas - Bolivia & Peru 1%, Indigenous Americas - North 1%, Indigenous Americas - Yucatan 1%. She also had 28% Spain, 3% Basque. Indigenous Americas - Bolivia & Peru replaces the result for Indigenous Americas Andes from the 2020 estimate, and tracks with the research showing my 3rd-great-grandfather Gabriel Vasquez born in Valparaiso, Chile in 1838.
My Mom's other sister now has 30% for Spain but 9% Indigenous Americas - Mexico. She also has 2% Basque, 2% Northern Africa, 1% Indigenous Americas - North, 1% Indigenous Americas - Yucatan and 1% Central Asia - South.
My Dad's test results seem much more accurate now based on known research. The odd Spain percentage in the 2020 update has been replaced with 3% Sweden & Denmark. His England & Northwestern Europe dropped from 56% to 29%. His Scotland changed from 24% to 42%. Ireland dropped from 18 to 7%. He also had Wales at 3%.
