AncestryDNA. June 2022 Update.

In anticipation of the September 2023 update to Ancestry's ethnicity estimates, expected really soon possibly tomorrow, above is a screen capture from the June 2022 update (and link to my post from 18 August 2022 when the updates finally appeared on my profile). The current map is slightly different from last year, based on the new communities rolled out earlier in August 2023.

My Aunt Patty's 2022 Update had a whopping 13 regions, and it will be interesting to see how many of these carry over or change for 2023:

I suspect the Indigenous Americas-Mexico for Sonora is pretty set for us, but the percentages and differences between my Mom & her siblings, my sister & I with our cousins, and for the kids, will be interesting to see.

Maria Jesus Diaz de Mirazo. 7 May 1953.

At long last, digital copies of the Alien Case Files for Maria Jesus Diaz de Mirazo, and her brother Gregorio Diaz, arrived last week while I was in Japan for meetings. Above is a photo for Maria Jesus from the file. Both were siblings of my 2nd-great-grandmother, Teresa Diaz.

Maria Jesus received an immigrant visa on 7 May 1953 at the American Consulate in Nogales, Sonora. She was sponsored by Benjamin Molina, husband of her daughter, Socorro Mirazo de Molina. Benjamin and Socorro also sponsored the immigrant visa for Socorro's brother, Leonardo Mirazo in 1949.

The file includes a certificate of baptism for Maria Jesus, verifying her baptism date as 28 September 1884 in Hermosillo (signed 11 November 1952). Her address prior to relocating to the United States as 60 Calle Sonora, Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, the address for her daughter Aurora Mirazo de Soto. Previous residences were listed as Naco, Arizona; Nogales and Hermosillo, Sonora, and that she had lived in the United States between 1913-1914.

A throwback to almost seven years ago. Original version posted here. I am overdue for another visit to Santa Monica.

Waiting

On Monday this week, I heard back from the National Archives that they had moved my request for copies of the Alien Case Files on Gregorio Diaz and sister Maria Diaz (both siblings of my 2nd-great-grandmother Teresa Diaz) into the production queue. Once copies were complete, I would be notified to make a payment through the online portal, and would receive PDF scans of the files.

It's Saturday of the long Labor Day weekend, so I'm thinking it is unlikely I'll see the copies until next week sometime. I am hopeful both files include photos and other information that provides a clearer picture on the arrival of the Diaz family into the US.
