A snapshot of travels

A selection of slides taken by my Granny in 1970.
Over the Christmas break I started to go through a box of slides taken by my grandparents between 1970 and the mid 1980s. The photo above shows a list of locations corresponding to slides in one box, all taken on a trip from Indiana to Arizona and California in 1970. This page is in my Granny's handwriting. I have been able to locate most of the Arizona and California slides for this set, but the slides were out of order. This does show the general path they took to reach the West Coast, where several of my Granny's sibling were living. I still have more to go through.

I'm going to try more regular family history blogging over the next few weeks before the travel picks up again.

Embracing Peace

Photo by Patrick Jones. Embracing Peace, Bastogne, Belgium. 19 Jan 2019.
The photo above is a statute by Seward Johnson at the Mardasson Memorial outside Bastogne, Belgium. I had a bonus day following a training in the Brussels office and was treated to a tour of the Wallonia countryside. This was one of our stops. The statue is a recreation of the famous V-J Day in Times Square photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt.

The memorial honors American soldiers wounded or killed at the Battle of the Bulge.

Around the World

Photo by Patrick Jones. Santa Monica sunset. 10 Jan 2018.
Postings have been admittedly slow as I've been on an around the world loop for the past two weeks. I'm now back, catching up with the family. This trip took me to Los Angeles, Singapore, Dubai, Brussels, southern Belgium, Reykjavik, and back.

Starting off slow

Photo by Patrick Jones. Cat at the Acropolis, 8 Dec 2018.
2019 is off to a slow start on this blog, like the contemplative cat in the photo above. I am preparing for upcoming travel, and trying to tick off some tasks at home before the New Year adventures move into high gear. I may add some photos from the road, and I have more historic photos recovered from slides taken by my grandparents and my Dad. There are also some leads provided by family connections to explore.

For now, the weekend is being enjoyed with family, savoring sporting victories and good meals. There will be more writing to come, but not today.
